Oakland, CA – On Saturday, October 8th, 2022, Councilmember Treva Reid partnered with over 20 community-based organizations, city departments, and stakeholders to host District 7’s third Community Task Force Day of Action. Organizations provided residents resources along International Boulevard as a deterrence strategy to target the violence impacting the surrounding 82nd to 90th avenue blocks.
The Community Safety Task Force was able to reach more than 100 East Oakland residents during September’s Day of Action, connecting residents to career training and employment opportunities, healthcare, blight removal, violence intervention services, affordable housing resources and more.

“Youth are challenged with homelessness as they cry themselves to sleep with feelings of being alone and the only company they have are their tears. The Day of Action connected our youth together through neighborly smiles and much needed resources behind each conversation,” said Coach Tamikia McCoy of Youth Uprising.
"The D7 day of action event was a chance for us to help take back our streets by showering community members with love, conversation and tons of resources,” said Candice Elder, Founder and Executive Director of East Oakland Collective, about the second Day of Action event held in August, “Many community members are in need and have trouble navigating food, housing, economic resources. We were able to bring awareness directly to the people, meeting them where they are at."
