Many people don’t know that according to state and local laws, property owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of sidewalks on their property. And, if someone trips on your sidewalk and is injured, as a property owner you can be held liable and sued for damages.
To encourage more property owners to repair their sidewalks, the Department of Transportation has been authorized by City Council to temporarily waive all sidewalk permit fees through September 30, 2019.
