West Oakland Senior Center Temporarily Closed for Capital Improvement Project

Most activities currently offered at the Center will move to the North Oakland Senior Center

The Human Services Department, Aging and Adult Services Division is excited to announce that the West Oakland Senior Center (WOSC) is getting a new look! The center is temporarily closed for a Capital Improvement Project that was approved in 2019. 

 

New improvements to the center will include: 

  • Americans with Disability Act (ADA) ‘path of travel’ upgrades 
  • Electrification of the building and site, including HVAC system, commercial kitchen appliance and hot water heater replacement 
  • Interior improvements, including lighting, painting, drinking fountain, toilets and other interior room alterations, improved signage 
  • Exterior improvements, including parking and drop-off area signage, perimeter security fencing and gates, addition of security CCTV infrastructure, lighting, and exterior painting 

The last day of activities at the WOSC was Friday, June 14. The center’s reopening date will be provided in a future announcement. Visitors at any Oakland senior center may sign up for “My Senior Center” announcements and updates. 

 

Most activities currently offered at the WOSC will move to the North Oakland Senior Center (NOSC) located at 5714 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The combined schedule of activities for the North Oakland Senior Center, which now includes classes from the WOSC, is available on the website and can be requested by email at nosc@oaklandca.gov, or by visiting the North Oakland Senior Center, Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-3:00 pm.  

 

Current WOSC members are invited to receive 1 (one) free annual membership to the North Oakland Senior Center. To claim their membership, members can visit the North Oakland Senior Center, Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm.  

 

The three other City of Oakland Senior Centers will remain open with normal open hours, Monday through Friday, 9am-3pm.  

  • Downtown Oakland Senior Center located at 200 Grand Ave  
  • East Oakland Senior Center located at 1955 Edes Ave   
  • North Oakland Senior Center located at 5714 Martin Luther King Jr Way
