About

The Coliseum Complex is an approximately 112-acre property located in East Oakland.  It abuts the I-880 freeway and Coliseum Way to the west, Damon Slough Channel to the north and east, and South Elmhurst Creek Channel to the south. The site consists of two parcels and includes the Oakland arena, the Oakland-Alameda County Stadium, and large parking areas. The City of Oakland and Alameda County have historically each owned an undivided 50% interest in the property.

Current Status

In 2024, the City executed a sales contract with Oakland Acquisition Company (OAC), a partnership of the African American Sports and Entertainment Group (AASEG) and Loop Capital, for the City’s 50 percent interest in the property. OAC is expected to close on the sale in 2025.   In 2019, the County of Alameda entered into a sales contract with Coliseum Way Partners, an affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. Coliseum Way Partners is currently in discussions with OAC and Alameda County about assigning its sales contract to OAC.

OAC intends to develop the site over time, consistent with the City’s adopted Coliseum Area Specific Plan.   The Specific Plan calls for a new mixed-use neighborhood on the site, with market rate and affordable housing, housing, jobs, retail, entertainment and sports uses, open space and more.
