The City of Oakland has completed a $4.9 million dollar project improving and beautifying nine mini parks citywide:
- 88th Avenue Mini Park (1803 88th Avenue)
- Cesar Chavez Mini Park (1800 38th Avenue)
- Eula Brinson Mini Park (1712 85th Avenue)
- Gwen Jackson Mini Park (3042 Nicol Avenue)
- Lazear Mini Park (850 29th Avenue)
- McClymonds Mini Park (2528 Linden Street)
- Morgan Plaza (2601 Highland Avenue)
- Tomás Melero-Smith Mini Park (1461 65th Avenue)
- Vantage Point Park (1198 13th Avenue)
The project re-surfaced play areas, added new park furniture, accessible seating, and BBQ pits to all nine parks. Six of the nine parks received brand new code compliant play equipment. New drinking fountains have been installed to reduce consumption of sugary beverages and use of disposable plastic bottles. Dozens of shade trees have been planted to reduce the urban heat island effect, and parks have been greened with new landscaping and irrigation. The parks were also updated with new lighting, fencing, and gates to increase safety, and new animal-proof trash receptacles have been installed to encourage proper litter disposal and deter illegal dumping. These enhancements have significantly improved and beautified the parks, expanding access to recreation and creating new opportunities for community connection.
