About

The City of Oakland’s Department of Transportation (OakDOT) has retained the services of AGS, Inc. to provide the engineering plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) necessary for the slope restoration and road repair at Tunnel Road and Bay Forest Drive. The project will consist of constructing a new soldier beam and lagging retaining wall below the existing wall, installing tiebacks underneath Tunnel Road, and minor storm drainage modifications. The total estimated construction duration is 45 days, and estimated construction cost is $1.4 million. Construction is expected to be initiated in summer 2024. In the interim, OakDOT staff will continue to regularly monitor the location for changes in condition.

Construction activities are anticipated to cause temporary impacts to local traffic but will be kept to a necessary minimum. A traffic control plan will be developed by the City’s selected contractor and submitted to the City for approval. The plans will be shared here when available. The City’s contractor will be required to notify neighborhood residents of any construction activities before they begin.

Please note: Members of the public should not, under any circumstances, be accessing or moving the tarping or other materials that are being used to protect the site in advance of the repairs.
