The City of Oakland’s Department of Transportation (OakDOT) has retained the services of AGS, Inc. to provide the engineering plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) necessary for the slope restoration and road repair at Tunnel Road and Bay Forest Drive. The project will include constructing a new soldier beam and lagging retaining wall below the existing wall, installing tiebacks underneath Tunnel Road, and making minor storm drainage modifications.
The developed project plans have already been advertised to the City's on-call construction contractors. Bids were received and evaluated. The City is now in the process of executing a task order with the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. When the task order has been finalized, the contractor will develop a construction schedule that will be shared here. The total estimated construction duration is 45 days. In the interim, OakDOT staff will continue to regularly monitor the location for changes in condition.
Construction activities are anticipated to cause temporary impacts to local traffic but will be kept to the minimum necessary. A traffic control plan will be developed by the City’s selected contractor and submitted to the City for approval. The plans will be shared here when available and the contractor will be required to notify neighborhood residents of construction activities in advance.
Please note: Members of the public should not, under any circumstances, be accessing or moving the tarping or other materials that are being used to protect the site in advance of the repairs.
