Verdese Carter Park is an existing 3.49-acre park in east Oakland. This well-loved park serves an estimated 9,000 residents within a 10-minute walk from the site. The Oakland Police Activities League (PAL) operates out of Verdese Carter Park and has provided years of programming and activities for the community. Oakland Parks, Recreation and Youth Development runs the community garden program.
In partnership with the City of Oakland, Police Activities League (PAL), Oakland Parks, Recreation and Youth Development (OPRYD), Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation (OPRF), and our community stakeholders, TPL engaged in community outreach activities in 2020 to develop a concept design and successfully secure grant funding from the Statewide Parks Program. With this funding, TPL will lead the community re-engagement effort, design and construction of park improvements.
The 2020 Concept Design for the park includes: renovated playground area, new park entrance and walking loop path, flexible event plaza with stage and stepped seating, improved safety through additional lighting, flexible gathering spaces, multi-use field (renovation) and flexible lawn space, upgraded site furnishings, additional activity spaces, updated community garden space, and increased shade on site.
TPL will be facilitating OpeconductingStarting in Spring 2024, the City and TPL will lead a new series of design workshops. Come join us!
We will update this site with dates and times for upcoming meetings/workshops.
