Forensic Biology

​The mission of the Oakland Police Department Criminalistics Laboratory Forensic Biology Unit is to assist the Criminal Justice system through the timely collection and scientific examination of physical evidence and the clear, objective interpretation of analytical findings.

To further the Criminalistics Laboratory Forensic Biology Unit's mission, the goal of the Forensic Biology Unit is to provide forensic biology analysis and interpretation of' case evidence and to ensure the quality, integrity and reliability of our work through an on-going quality assurance program. Forensic biology material analyses include, but are not limited to, the evaluation of the physical evidence for biological material, conducting chemical analyses to aid in the identification of the biological material, selection of biological material for DNA extraction and performing DNA quantification and DNA typing.
