Several organizations offer free or low-cost pet vaccines and other services for low-income residents of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Please go to the appropriate website below to get the latest information on these clinics. Oakland Animal Services does not have a public clinic and cannot provide vaccinations or veterinary services to owned pets. You may microchip your pet at Oakland Animal Services for $10 on a walk-in basis during open hours.
Are you interested in having the joy of an animal in your life but aren’t ready to make a long-term commitment? Please consider fostering an animal who is struggling in the shelter and needs a home environment while waiting for their permanent family.
Through caring for animals in the shelter, helping get animals adopted, supporting community veterinary clinics and so much more, volunteers play an integral role in helping Oakland’s animals. Thank you for your interest in volunteering at OAS!

UPDATE 2/13/23: Due to a multi-system outage impacting the City of Oakland, the Fire Prevention Bureau (FPB) is currently accepting all permit applications and intake forms by email, to FPBReceptionist@oaklandca.gov. This page provides a summary of work to date and anticipated next steps and timeline for the City of Oakland’s contracting efforts necessary to completing delivery of the equity-driven 3-Year Paving Plan in spring 2022 and beginning delivery of the 5-Year Paving Plan in summer 2022. The process has included significant public discussion and interest -- particularly with respect to the City’s Local / Small Local Business Enterprise (L/SLBE) Program -- and this page is published to provide transparency about the process and next steps, so that all stakeholders can stay fully informed. This page will be updated regularly as the process moves forward.
As an Oakland native, Councilmember Loren Taylor is the product of several local mentorship programs, which he credits to providing him the life skills, knowledge, and self-confidence to become a leader in his civic, professional, and family life. Understanding the power these programs have to change the lives of Oakland youth, he is honored to bring forth the National Mentorship Month resolution for the Oakland City Council to adopt. Below is a list of mentorship programs that are positively impacting the life outcomes of Oakland youth.
