The Commercial Inspection Program assesses commercial facilities and multi-family residences (apartments, hotels, motels, etc.). The goals include:
- Ensure compliance with codes and laws.
- Provide public safety education to business owners and occupants.
- Conduct pre-fire planning for future emergency response.
Inspections typically occur every two years. Single-family dwellings and duplex buildings are exempt from these inspections.
The Oakland Fire Department conducts commercial inspections as time permits. We do not usually schedule these inspections by appointment.
