The cycle of consuming and disposing of materials in Oakland accounts for a small portion of local greenhouse gas emissions, but a full 39% of global, or lifecycle emissions. This section includes all food and goods that we consume or purchase, and whether, when, and how we throw them away.

Oaklanders have access to robust recycling and composting services, but recyclable and organic (compostable) materials still end up in the landfill.
