Volunteers play a significant role in increasing one-on-one attention to at-risk and struggling children and providing the much needed attention for helping children’s self-esteem and success. Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors and friends whom children and youth come to depend on and who can change their lives for the better.
Volunteer Eligibility
- You must live in Alameda County;
- You must be 55 or older;
- Able to volunteer an average of 15-20 hours per week;
- Have a limited income; and
- Love working with children!
Foster Grandparent Program is a part of the national Senior Corps of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is sponsored locally by the City of Oakland, Human Services Department.
