Since 1974, Senior Companions have provided assistance to adults with physical, emotional or mental health limitations, most of whom are elderly. These clients have difficulties with daily living tasks and Senior Companions help them retain their dignity and independence.

Volunteer Eligibility for Senior Companion Program

  • You must live in Alameda County
  • You must be 55 or older
  • Able to volunteer an average of 15-20 hours per week
  • Have a limited income and
  • Love working with seniors!

The Senior Companion is a part of the national Senior Corps of the Corporation for National and Community Service and is sponsored locally by the City of Oakland, Human Services Department.
