Portrait of Charlotte Jones

Charlotte Jones

Charlotte Jones is the Deputy Inspector General for Oakland’s Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Before joining the OIG, she served as the Chief of Staff for the Community Police Review Agency (CPRA). After several months as second in command, Jones took on the position of Interim Executive Director and led the entire CPRA operations for 7 months, working tirelessly for the benefit and betterment of the organization.

Jones received her Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and her Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University Law School. Raised in Detroit, she has spent nearly 30 years in public service, including over 23 years working in civilian oversight. Most laudable is Jones’ pivotal role in overhauling the operating procedures and investigative practices of the civilian oversight agency in Detroit to ultimately reach compliance after a 13-year-long federal Consent Decree. Having conducted and reviewed thousands of investigations, and led an investigative team, Jones stands as a subject-matter expert with crucial insight into the methods, functions, and purpose of civilian oversight.

As a recent transplant to Oakland, Jones has spent her time here growing increasingly acclimated to the city and its civilian oversight needs. Her passion for and dedication to the betterment of the community is matched only by the experience and knowledge she brings to her role.
