Laura Kaminski, AICP, is the Strategic Planning Manager for the City of Oakland, California. She has been a planner for 26 years and has worked for Oakland for 18 years. She holds a Masters in Urban Planning as well as a Bachelor’s in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, School of Architecture and Urban Planning.
Most recently she oversaw the Division's work on the Housing and Safety Element as well as the creation of a new Environmental Justice Element along with a Planning Code Amendment package to implement a number of the actions in these elements. The amendments included missing middle zoning changes that for the most part eliminated single-family zoning in Oakland. For past projects, she was the Project Manager for creating the City’s Impact Fees and worked on Oakland’s Broadway Valdez District Specific Plan to bring destination retail and a mixed-use neighborhood to Oakland. She also worked on rewriting Oakland’s Commercial and Residential Zoning Codes, along with rezoning over 100,000 parcels.
