On October 5th, 2023, the City hosted the inaugural Climate Justice Supper, a transformative evening that brought together community, business, and philanthropic leaders in a shared commitment to addressing the critical intersection of equity and the climate crisis. The event offered a platform for engaging discussions, immersive storytelling, and an opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals dedicated to making Oakland a more sustainable and just city. Attendees were inspired by Mayor Sheng Thao's remarks and powerful stories from Mark Hall (Revalue.io), Keta Price (The Hood Planner), Khariyyah Shabazz (Higher Ground NDC and Roots Community Clinic), and Gavin Raders (Planting Justice Nursery). Read these stories and more in the Climate Justice Supper Storybook and by visiting the City of Oakland's Sustainability page. The delicious and sustainable six-course meal was catered by local Bay Area chefs, Chef Tu David Phu, Chef Nelson German, and Chef Monique Feybesse. The event was conceived by Cultural Strategist in Government Pacita Rudder, and was made possible by the following generous sponsors:
