Under Oakland Municipal Code (OMC) 5.36 massage establishments and massage therapists in the City of Oakland must apply for a massage permit.
What is ....
A Massage Establishment is defined as any establishment having a fixed place of business where any person, firm, association, or corporation engages in, activities mentioned in this chapter.
A Massage Therapist is defined as any person who, for any consideration whatsoever, engages in the practice of massage as herein defined, whether in a massage establishment within the city, in their residence or on an out-call basis anywhere within the city. Massage therapists who possess the CAMTC certification do not need the City of Oakland Massage Therapist permit.
Application
Please complete the application and submit with required fees and documents to our office at 1 Frank H Ogawa Plaza - Suite 123. Please note Massage Establishment permits are not transferable. The new owner(s) or change in ownership must apply for his/her own Massage Establishment permit before operation begins.
