MLK Day of Service - January 15, 2024

On Monday January 15, the City of Oakland celebrated MLK Day of Service! Thousands of volunteers participated in this day of community service, education, and action. Volunteers organized neighborhood clean-ups, beautification projects, and a variety of other service events.

Service for Peace has partnered with Oakland Public Works to lead this annually in Oakland since 2003, engaging thousands of volunteers in projects to clean and green Oakland. The Corporation for National and Community Service helps sponsor the event in Oakland, and throughout the nation, where hundreds of thousands of volunteers pitch in on similar community service projects.

MLK Day of Service is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service – a "day on, not a day off."
