Nominations are Now Open for the City of Oakland Parks, Recreation & Youth Development 71st Annual Mother of the Year Award!
Oakland’s Mother of the Year is a tradition dating back to 1954; every year on the Saturday before Mother’s Day, a new “Mother” is proclaimed, and her name is added to the Mother's Walk at the Morcom Rose Garden.
The call for nominations is open until 4:00pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, and anyone can make a nomination of someone whose contributions to the community symbolize the finest traditions of “motherhood.” Past awards have gone to those who reflected the best of humanity through leadership and perseverance against all odds to make a positive impact for families or community life. Honorees will be recognized on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 10:30am, at Morcom Amphitheater of Roses 700 Jean Street Oakland, CA 94610.
