Transfer of Equity Application/Permit

On December 5, 2023 the Oakland City Council adopted Ordinance No. 13775 C.M.S., which amended Oakland Municipal Code (OMC) 5.80 and 5.81 to allow an Equity Applicant to transfer their local authorization status or permit to a General Applicant

Mayor Thao's Revitalized Operation Ceasefire

Operation Ceasefire is a vital component of Mayor Sheng Thao's comprehensive community safety strategy aimed at reducing gun violence in Oakland. Initially launched in 2011, Ceasefire has been recognized nationally for its success in lowering homicides and improving public safety. Despite its past success, Mayor Thao secured funds to audit the program through the California Partnership for Safe Communities and found that the City of Oakland had not effectively implemented Ceasefire since late 2019. This lapse led to increased violence. In response, Mayor Thao has directed a reinvigoration of the Ceasefire strategy, committing to comprehensive implementation and renewed focus.

Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Midcycle Budget

Every even numbered year the City goes through a planning process between January and June to modify the budget for the coming fiscal year from the previously adopted biennial spending plan.
