Thanksgiving Meal 2024

Please join us at The City of Oakland's 33rd Annual Community Day of Thanks serving Seniors, Low-Income families and Residents who are homeless

Hunger Program

The Hunger Program provides food to Oakland residents all year. The programs distributes food to a network of food pantries and community-based organizations. This network is the Emergency Food Providers Advisory Committee (EFPAC).The Hunger Program also supports two events. These events are the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and Project Homeless Connect outreach fair. We fund these events through donations and volunteer efforts.

Aging & Adult Services

The City provides programming that support independence, safety, health, and active living for seniors. We work with community partners to deliver services that include care management, jobs, training, volunteering, recreation and transportation assistance.

Transportation Resources for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

Oakland Paratransit for the Elderly & Disabled (OPED) assists adults with disabilities and seniors with supplemental transportation services. Contracted vendors provide curb-to-curb and door-to-door subsidized transportation service to eligible program participants who cannot access public transportation, by subsidizing taxi, Uber/Lyft or wheelchair van service to non-emergency medical appointments, shopping trips and other local destinations.

Special Activity Permits

The City requires a variety of permits for special activities, events and filming in Oakland to help ensure the safety of event participants and minimize the impact on our neighborhoods.Click on the permit type below to find details on how to obtain the permit.
