Oakland, together we can meet this crisis, expand our progress, and reduce homelessness in our community.
The CORE Program trains community to both prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies that we may face locally. Each training and/or volunteer deployment type will differ and so will the related policies and procedures.
Thank you City of Oakland Employees, for your service! This page is currently in development. Additional DSW resources will be posted here as they become available.
Help us #ReadyOakland! Through training, individuals will learn to manage utilities and extinguish small fires; treat the three killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock; provide basic medical aid; search for and rescue victims safely; and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective until professional first responders can arrive. This training is great for community groups, organized teams of people, and neighbors who want to be ready to be called upon to support their immediate neighborhood and the broader Oakland community in an official volunteer capacity.
On June 15, 2021, the City of Oakland adopted the 2021-2026 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). The LHMP serves as a meaningful guide to increasing the Oakland community’s resilience in the face of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, extreme heat and fires. The City will be engaging with the community in the near future for the development of the 2026 LHMP. The Oakland Fire Department will oversee the plan update process. Please contact the Emergency Management Services Division at emergencyplanning@oaklandca.gov for more information.
Leaving pets out of evacuation plans can put pets, pet owners, and first responders in danger. This page provides resources on how to prepare your with and for, your pet.
