Oakland Police Areas

The Oakland Police Department patrol and special operations are organized under Police Areas 1, 2, and 3 (under Bureau of Field Operations One) and Police Areas 4, 5, and 6 (under Bureau of Field Operations Two). Through these divisions, OPD provides day-to-day police services, including response to emergency and non-emergency calls, preliminary investigations and evidence collection, community-oriented problem solving, and crime-fighting efforts.

We are committed to making information available to the public. The links below provide information related to OPD policies, the Negotiated Settlement Agreement (NSA), Occupy Oakland, and other relevant police public information.

Application Help

To help you succeed in the application process, we offer seminars and workshops.

Street Sweeping

Oakland Public Works regularly cleans public streets in Oakland to keep our streets safer and reduce the amount of waste that flows into our storm drains and San Francisco Bay. If you park in a restricted area during a scheduled street sweeping, you can receive a ticket. You can find street sweeping schedules and information on this page.

Commercial Compost, Recycle and Trash

We can help your business comply with Oakland's trash, recycle and compost requirements. Waste Management of Alameda County, Inc (WMAC) is the exclusive provider of commercial trash and compost collection services. OaklandRecycles.com has complete information about available services.

Construction and Demolition Recycling

All building permits in Oakland require a Recycling Plan before they can be issued and a Summary Report before final inspection can be scheduled. Both are provided through the Green Halo website.

Legally Dispose of Your Junk

There are a lot of resources for getting rid of, and recycling, your old stuff in Oakland. We even offer a free pick up of bulky items like mattresses of refrigerators once a year!

Tree Services

The City of Oakland will only prune trees in hazardous or emergency situations. In 2008, nearly half of the Tree Services unit was eliminated due to lack of funding. The tree planting, watering, pruning and pollarding services were all eliminated.
