We work closely with labor unions, negotiate collective bargaining agreements and implement terms and conditions of employment for City of Oakland employees.
Risk management services provide contract insurance requirements review, as well as property and casualty claims management for covered losses. We self-insure the majority of our exposures and purchase insurance in those areas where the level of exposure warrants.
Using bilingual employees, interpreters, translators; telephone, internet or video interpretation; and translated materials, the City provides meaningful access to information and services related to City programs and activities to members of the public who are LEP Persons. The City of Oakland Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally and state funded early childhood education program that promotes school readiness for children from birth to age five. We offer free early childhood education and family services to low-income Oakland residents.
We aim to strengthen the network of Oakland's safety net services and work with partners to provide housing services for homeless and at-risk populations. Services include: Emergency Housing Program, Winter Relief Program, Emergency Winter Shelter, Homeless Mobile Outreach Program, Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA), and more.
