Social equity is achieved when people have full and equal access to opportunities that enable them to attain their full potential.

Oakland has a long history of activism around
issues of justice and equity. Both oppression and this resistance to oppression have shaped the city’s past and the lives of its residents to this day.

A city is resilient when it can respond to many different kinds of stress. Oakland has a long history of working hard work to make sure that everyone can find good schools and jobs, pay for housing, and feel safe even in hard times. To help Oakland stay a strong and resilient city, we need to work together to make a City government that Oaklanders can trust. We also need to learn to use data and research to help us make decisions about how to help the community and support the City.

We must improve public safety using a holistic approach, including more police, better community policing, intervention and prevention programs, as well as addressing the root causes of crime starting with better jobs and education. Oakland will not grow unless people are confident it is getting safer.

The first section of Oakland's 2030 Equitable Climate Action Plan (ECAP) is Transportation + Land Use (TLU). Transportation accounts for two thirds of Oakland’s local greenhouse gas emissions. The TLU Actions were developed with a vision that integrated land use and access to safe, reliable, low-cost, high-quality mobility options for every Oaklander will enable an equitable transition away from cars.
ADA Programs Division promotes equity for persons with disabilities by coordinating physical and programmatic access compliance in all city programs, activities, and services.
OakDOT is committed to helping people with disabilities get around Oakland easily.
OakDOT manages two separate car share programs: Free-Floating Car Share and the Dedicated Space Car Share. Electric mopeds are eligible vehicles under both programs.
Oakland is working to be a more bikeable and walkable city to improve safety, enhance quality of life, and reduce our environmental footprint. Learn about Oakland's bicycle plan, pedestrian plan, projects and programs. View the Bike Facilities and Projects map below. Join the BPAC!
