Help us #ReadyOakland! Through training, individuals will learn to manage utilities and extinguish small fires; treat the three killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock; provide basic medical aid; search for and rescue victims safely; and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective until professional first responders can arrive. This training is great for community groups, organized teams of people, and neighbors who want to be ready to be called upon to support their immediate neighborhood and the broader Oakland community in an official volunteer capacity.
On June 15, 2021, the City of Oakland adopted the 2021-2026 Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP). The LHMP serves as a meaningful guide to increasing the Oakland community’s resilience in the face of natural disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, extreme heat and fires. The City will be engaging with the community in the near future for the development of the 2026 LHMP. The Oakland Fire Department will oversee the plan update process. Please contact the Emergency Management Services Division at emergencyplanning@oaklandca.gov for more information.
Leaving pets out of evacuation plans can put pets, pet owners, and first responders in danger. This page provides resources on how to prepare your with and for, your pet.

The Understanding Evictions in Oakland page provides important information about the city's eviction laws, including the requirement for "Just Cause" when ending a tenancy. This ensures that landlords can only evict tenants for specific, legal reasons, such as non-payment of rent or property damage. The page also outlines recent legal updates and resources to help both tenants and property owners navigate eviction processes in Oakland.
In Fiscal Year 2019-20 staff serviced 59,215 Illegal Dumping work orders, which accounted for 55,236 cubic yards of debris being removed from neighborhoods. This is enough debris to fill a football field (100 yards long x 53.5 yards wide) 9.47 feet high or stretch 3.48 miles long at a height of 3 feet.
In Fiscal Year 2019-20 the Graffiti Abatement program abated 530,124 square feet of graffiti from public property. With these efforts the White House could have been painted approximately 10 times.
