Redistricting Commissioner
Amber Blackwell, M.A, has been living, laughing, and learning in Oakland, CA for the past fifty years. Over that time, she have been a College Professor, Charter School Administrator, a Mental Health Counselor, Education Coordinator, Social Service Provider, Researcher, and advocate for more opportunities for African Americans to participate in the education of other African Americans and people of Color. In her early years she worked alongside former Superintendent Tony Smith engaging in school reform efforts in Oakland Unified School District and has been implementing successful supplemental programming for Oakland Unified School District for the past twenty years. She is now continuing to serve where she started joining the Oakland Redistricting Commission as a Commissioner in 2021.
