Landmarks Preservation Advisory Board Member

Originally from the DC metro area, Galen has been a resident of Oakland since 2012 and is privileged to call Oakland home with its rich community and history. Currently he works for a police misconduct database project under the auspices of the California Police Records Access Project hosted at the Berkeley Institute for Data Science at UC Berkeley. Since 2019, Galen has worked as a software engineer on an open source software project called the Arches Project. His work has directly supported cultural and historic preservation of people, places, and things, ranging from projects based out of Amman, Jordan; Los Angeles, California; West Hollywood, California; and Jakarta, Indonesia. He is passionate about highlighting the historic assets in the city of Oakland from an equity-based perspective and also deeply committed to increased affordable housing for all given the current affordability crisis hitting the entire bay area.
