Owen Li is currently the lead researcher at the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees Local 3299, which represents 37,000 workers at University of California campuses and medical centers. His areas of focus include housing policy, racial and gender wage inequality, finance, development, and collective bargaining. Previously, he was the lead organizer for the Ella Baker Center's campaign to shut down youth prisons in California. He received a B.A. from Stanford University and a J.D. from the Boston University School of Law where he studied and practiced criminal defense and indigent legal services. He has also been a researcher and organizer for the hotel workers' union as well as community and youth organizations. Owen is originally from Hangzhou, China, and currently lives with his blended family in Oakland, where he has been a resident since 2007.
